Collection 09 | Feeling Blue

Current obsession: Blue!  I think since buying the dip dye curtains from West Elm (now on sale!) for our bedroom, I am now looking for more inspirational blues to compliment.  I'm also looking to team it up with yellow and even red... sound crazy?  Yes, you're probably right, but I'm the one sleeping in there, right?  Here are a few blue hues below...

Colour Inspiration | Spring Flowers and Hot Pinks

I don't think I have ever seen so many different varieties of flowers on the streets... until I got to LA.  There are so many different types dotted around the neighbourhoods.  I guess it's the sunshine that helps them to grow.  Whilst out on my bike the other day, I photographed a few that caught my eye and thought I'd share them with you.  They really do brighten up any dull day and those who know me, know how inspired I am by hot pinks!  What colours are inspiring you this Spring?

Things I Love Thursday

It's week two of 'Things I Love Thursday'.  I found the Boston image (1) which is for a magazine cover.  I think it's a really sensitive and thought provoking image using the marathon runner's shoes.  It's a beautiful way to honour the people who took part.  Read the story behind the cover by following the link below.

I am currently (always have been) loving anything brass/gold so I am loving the pillow image (2) which is also a 'DIY' on the Land of Nod blog. I think this blog is more tailored to 'all things children/tween's' (to which I have none) but there are some really nice inspiration images on there!

I have recently planted up some succulents which are perfect for the SoCal weather and now I am desperate to get these brass pots (image 3) for some other plants. Simple and elegant.

Every now and then I find an image (4) of an architectural space that really excites me.  With this particular image it's the mirroring lines of the floor finish and wall finish that wraps up to the ceiling/underside of the roof.  The use of materials is simple, yet affective and the use of the large panes of glass make a connection with the outdoors almost making it feel like one space.

We are currently in the process of making over the office space in our house so I'm constantly looking up images (5) of fun inspiration for that. I'm a list maker, so this DIY hanging 'notepad' is a great idea.

Lastly, and I'm not sure I even need to write as to why I chose this image... 1. It's chocolate 2. It's cake 3. There's a brass pan in the background... with chocolate in it!!!  Enough said!

Collection 08 | English Food for St. George's Day

Here are a few of my favourite English dishes to celebrate St. George's Day with.  All the recipes are taken from one of my favourite cookery websites BBC Food.  Now I'm off to make some scones!!!

Week 17 | Happy St. George's Day!

Today is St. George's Day, which is the celebration of England's patron saint.  Dating back to the 12th century (crazy old!), St. George is known for slaying a dragon, a bit like what is going down in Game of Thrones. I'm no history nerd, and shamefully I really don't know much of the story about St. George (note to self, read up on it before posting about it!). However, I am quite patriotic to the motherland and with me living away from it, I wanted to give a shout out to all my friends and family back home in celebration!  It isn't celebrated quite as hard as St. Patrick's Day, but I expect this will change over the coming years (Dear Queen, please give all my peeps an extra bank holiday off, they deserve it!).  If you are celebrating, then I hope it's with a good pint of ye olde English ale or a crumpet (maybe two?) and a pot of tea, served only in the finest china... cup and saucer, if you please.  I am going to have a go at making crumpets soon.  And I'm going to use Paul Hollywood's recipe, so keep watch for my progress on that!

England, friends and family, I love you and miss you all!

Happy St. George's Day !!!
